Certainly, that has to be disappointing if you're a 49er fan. Then again, it could be a blessing in disguise.<br /><br />You may ask, how so?<br /><br />In simple terms, it's easier to win without the pressure of high expectations. Fans love to use the cliché, "Any Given Sunday," when describing their team's chances of winning. And for the most part, that saying seems to ring true for at least one team that is given a snowball's chance in you know where of winning each week. Also, take into account that a $5 bet could, in theory, net you $550 if the miracle occurred, and that would make any betting man extremely happy.<br />So, why not the 49ers?<br /><br />Well, there are plenty of reasons why they won't go to the Super Bowl. Everything from inexperience at quarterback, to a lack of depth, to question marks along the offensive line. As many may know, I have already elaborated on my expectations for this upcoming season, picking them to fall just short of .500, which may be a lofty goal compared to what Vegas is betting on. That being said, the 49ers could still turn some heads and surprise a few over-confident teams along the way.<br /><br />With the odds-makers as good as they are, don't expect to turn a profit on a potential small investment. At the same time, though, you might want to ask golfer/betting guru Phil Mickelson who he's got his money on, as "lefty" has had a knack for picking NFL champions in recent years.<br /><br />110-1. So, if I put $1,000 down, I could get... It sure is nice to dream.
